Security
cameras have been invaluable at a Huddersfield
high school.
Honley High School and Sixth Form Centre
has had nine closed circuit television
cameras installed at a cost of about
£20,000.
They cover all the outsides of the school
and every entrance to its grounds.
A special Kirklees Council grant helped
to pay for the work.
Headteacher Barry Conchie said: "The
cameras will be permanently recording,
24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so
if anything happens we can check the
tapes and identify those involved."
There are also live TV monitors in the
school reception.
Local company Security Solutions was
hired to carry out the work.
A school competition was run to design
special warning posters to be out up
around the grounds.
Year 9 student lucy Buthcer won a £30
prize from Security Solutions for her
winning entry.
Company boss David Forward said working
in the school has been a good experience.
"The CCTV industry is almost doubling
every year," he said. "Schools seem
to want the cameras not only to deter
burglary, but also as a means of looking
at student movement and monitoring behaviour.
"We hope to
do more work in schools on the future."
